Starting his career with Cholet, Gelabale spent two seasons with Real Madrid , winning the ACB title in 2005, before moving to the Seattle Sonics who had taken him with the 48th overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft. He was side-lined for a year following an ACL injury in 2008, making his return in the NBA's D-League. He re-joined Cholet in 2009, wining league MVP honours after leading his club to the Pro A title. Following a stint with Khimki Moscow where he won the Eurocup, he split last season between Croatia, Spain and the NBA where he joined Minnesota in January. He was waived by the Timberwolves in July. Gelabale made his debut for France in 2005 in a friendly against Belgium and was part of the team which took third place at EuroBasket that summer, as well as silver in 2011.
