Power In Paint Keeps Greece Undefeated

Greece harvested a second win in Group C after relying on their inside strength to overpower plucky Finland.

Having pushed Croatia hard the Finns again showed plenty of spirit and hustle but couldn't find an answer to the power in the paint and extra quality of the Greeks as they lost 81-61.

Both teams started the game at a brisk pace during the early exchanges with Finland once again feeding off their defensive energy to keep themselves in touch after initially falling 14-6 behind.

They were always going to struggle to contend with the Greek big men and battled gallantly to try and keep them at bay.

However Greece laid out their game plan right from the tip-off and not surprisingly looked inside at every possible opportunity.

With Ioannis Bourousis finding it all too easy under the basket, it was a struggle for Finland and by the time Antonis Fotsis and Nikos Zsis both dropped outside scores, they found themselves with a hill to climb at 41-29.

While a three-pointer by Petteri Koponen on the half-time buzzer gave Finland a glimmer of hope as they headed to the locker rooms, they could make no impression during the second half as Greece maintained control and eased their way to victory.

Finland coach Henrik Dettmann can at least take some solace from the fact his players once again forced a high number of turnovers while the final margin was harsh on his team.
