Portugal, Hungary Win In Friendlies

Hungary Down Iran

Adam Hanga and Peter Lorant poured in 14 points apiece to lead Hungary past Iran in a friendly on Monday night that was played in Szombathely.

The Hungarians trailed going into the last quarter but outscored the two-time defending champions of Asia 24-10 over the last 10 minutes en route to 75-66 victory.

Hungary are warming up for the EuroBasket's Additional Qualifying Round, with their first game against Finland on August 12.

 

Portugal In Fine Fettle

New coach Mario Palma and Portugal are back home in Guimaraes continuing their preparations for the Additional Qualifying Round after winning friendly games in Istanbul.

The Portuguese beat Azerbaijan (85-48), Albania (60-54), Morocco (72-70) and Egypt (73-60).

Palma's team only led 37-32 at the break against Azerbaijan but then blew the game wide open in the second half.

In their closest contest against the Moroccans, Portugal got 19 points from Joao Santos and 18 from Jose Costa.

The national side will be in training from July 19-21 before hosting the Torneio Internacional de Guimaraes.

Following a morning workout session on Friday, January 22, the team will host Romania in a friendly that night.

On Saturday, the opponents will be Angola - the team Palma once coached for several years.

Portugal will finish the tournament with a game against Iran.
