The Gasol brothers proved too much as Spain remained perfect at EuroBasket 2011, beating Great Britain 86-69 on Friday in Panevezys. Pau Gasol had a game-high 21 points but it was Marc Gasol's 12 third-quarter points that propelled the defending champions to victory. Marc finished with 18 points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. He also dished out five assists, came up with two steals and blocked one shot. Great Britain struggled but stayed within striking distance as Luol Deng and Dan Clark combined for 21 of their team's 32 points in the first half. They went to the changing rooms down 38-32. After the restart, Chris Finch's team continued to battle before Marc Gasol took over. With his team on top 42-36, Gasol reeled off eight straight points in a 10-0 that Britain never recovered from. Great Britain trailed 60-45 heading into the final quarter and never threatened again. |
