Georgia kept EuroBasket Qualifying Round Group C all bunched up after a pair of sparkling double-doubles by Zaza Pachulia and Nikoloz Tskitishvili secured a comfortable 80-57 success in Portugal. Pachulia finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Tskitishvili claimed 12 points and 15 rebounds. Georgia enjoyed a fantastic start and blew Portugal away in the opening ten minutes. They held their hosts to just four points during the first 8 minutes while racking up 20 points and by the end of the first quarter they were 20-8 ahead. Portugal started the second period in much better fashion when they scored eleven of the first sixteen points to narrow to single digits at 27-19 but were already suffering from the absence of Heshimu Evans. However Georgia were fired back up during the three minutes leading up to the half-time interval when Nikoloz Tskitishvili rained in three triples to take his team back out to a commanding 37-23 lead. Two quick scores by George Tsintsadze to start the second half took the advantage out to twenty points but by the end of the third period, the home team had reduced the gap by half at 55-45. Mario-Gil Fernandes reduced the margin further when he drained one from the arc and while Portugal got to within six points, they would get no closer. Georgia stepped on the gas and were soon out of sight after posting 13 points without reply as the hosts dried up. Miguel Miranda claimed 20 points for Portugal to go with his 8 rebounds. |
