F.Y.R. of Macedonia will have to settle for second place in Group B after ending their qualifying campaign with an 83-71 defeat on the road to Bosnia & Herzegovina. The door was left open for F.Y.R. of Macedonia to take a top seed when the Brits lost in Ukraine earlier on Sunday, but they could not take advantage as Bosnia & Herzegoviona ended their campaign on a winning note. However, F.Y.R. of Macedonia's 5-3 record is good enough to earn them a ticket to Lithuania next summer. The visitors looked strong early on and enjoyed a 23-16 lead early in the second quarter. But the hosts soon got on level terms and after free throws from Henry Domercant and then Edin Bavcic had put them up 38-34 they never again trailed en route to victory. Nihad Dedovic scored 20 points to lead five Bosnians in double figures as Bavcic added 19, Ratko Varda had 15, Domercant 13 and Kenan Bajramovic 12. Bo McCalebb led Macedonia with 19 points while Pero Antic added 15. |
