Azerbaijan got the summers Division B action off to an historic start after the debutantes celebrated their arrival in the second tier with an impressive 81-63 win against Albania in Tirana. It was a stunning 31-14 second quarter that made the difference in the game as the visitors announced their arrival from Division C in some style as they romped to victory. Center Charles Davis was the key man after racking up a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds while Aleksandr Rindin had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Zauer Pashayev also impressed with an all action line of 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Ermal Kuqo finished with 17 points for Albania. In the only other game in Division B, it was Jonas Jerebko who tore it up to help Sweden to a 75-66 win against Belarus. The NBA star harvested a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds in Norrkoping as the hosts got off to the perfect start. An energetic performance by the returning Rudy Mbemba was also a highlight for the home team while Aliaksandr Kuddrautsau top scored for Belarus with 16 points. |
