Even at the age of 28, Sergey Monya still seems to be adding new elements to his game. While defensively he is a master due to his superb ability to contest shots all over the court and either guard players in the paint or on the perimeter, his offensive game has developed in recent years. He has always been a player who can jump and use his athleticism to tear down ferocious dunks but his once maligned court vision has improved with experience and he is making better decisions from the wings. In fact he is playing as well as at any time during his career with club side Khimki, perhaps highlighted by being crowned MVP at the Russian League All Star Game. That followed on from his form last summer with the National Team at the FIBA World Championship. He has always been one of the main players for Russia due to his defensive capabilities but in Turkey last year, he was also red-hot from downtown showing why he is very much an ‘X-Factor' player. |
