Marko Popovic will head into his fifth consecutive EuroBasket tournament full of confidence after leading the team in scoring at the FIBA World Championship and being crowned MVP at the Eurocup Finals after leading UNICS Kazan to their first title in the competition. He has been one of the most consistent players for a long time and despite some limitations, just like a fine wine, he seems to be getting even better with age. Now considered a veteran despite still being less than 30-years-old, Popovic provided real leadership and experience at the Eurocup Final Four the same way he did last summer. He set a new record for assists in the Final with a stunning haul of 11 to go with 18 points. He is developing into the key player for Croatia and his performances in Turkey were excellent. Not only did he shoot almost 47% from downtown but he was also a sensational 12 of 14 inside. The guard has often been viewed as something of a streaky scorer in the past but with new found consistency maturity and the great attitude he has always possessed he is a great option. |
