Italy coach Simone Pianigiani may have one less option for a spot in his backcourt at the EuroBasket with Jacopo Giachetti unable to join the team for the start of their training camp on July 18.

The Lottomatica Roma playmaker has had a check-up on his right knee, which was operated on in December, and been advised to have "30 days of personal recovery" before being examined again.

Italy announced in a statement: "The athlete Jacopo Giachetti has been authorized, at his request, not to be present at the meeting of the men's national team on Monday, July 18.

"Giachetti has undergone in the last week a check-up on the orthopedic work done on his right knee last December. The exam highlighted a clinically healed knee, but one that is still not optimal with regard to muscle strength..."

Giachetti's last Lega A appearance for Roma was on November 21 against Armani Jeans Milano.

Italy will play in Group B at the EuroBasket in Lithuania against France, Germany, Serbia, Israel and Latvia.
