EUROBASKET 2011

Turning Point: After an error-strewn finish to the first-half, Greece used their time in the locker room to regain their composure and came out strong at the start of the third quarter with a devastating 19-0 run. They were always on top from this point onwards.

Game Hero: It was a real team effort by Greece but Kostas Koufos was the pick of the bunch with 19 points and four blocks.

Stats Don't Lie: The intense defence for Greece was back and a 26-10 third quarter tells the story.

Greece blew out Montenegro with a third quarter blitz.

Having looked unconvincing during a scrappy first half, the Greeks were unstoppable after the break as they exploded to help secure a 71-55 success.

The victory and second-half performance was the best possible response to their critics having been dismantled by F.Y.R. of Macedonia in their previous game.

Montenegro opened up the game with confidence despite coming into the contest off the back of successive losses.

Three-pointers by Omar Cook and Vlado Scepanovic put them 8-2 in front and applied some pressure to the under-fire Greeks.

Greece also shot the ball much better. They made some shots from outside too, going three of four from beyond the arc to help them to a 21-18 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Head coach Ilias Zouros was certainly trying to find answers to the questions previously posed in the wake of their defeat to F.Y.R. of Macedonia and this was no better evidenced than him using all 12 players before the halftime interval.

Greece still held a slender 32-31 lead but knew they would need to improve their decision making and execution in the second half.

To their credit, they came out strongly with a powerful start to the third quarter to leave Montenegro trailing in their wake.

They dominated at both ends of the floor and never looked back.
