Michael Jeffrey Jordan is known as the best ever basketball player. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on 17th February 1963. Michael is the fourth of five children.
Jordan studied in Emsley A. Lane High School in Wilmington. There he found his sportsman skills. He was good at baseball, football and, of course, basketball. In his sophomore year, Michael Jordan wasn’t selected in the basketball squad of his school, because he was too short (1.80 m.). However, Jordan was so motivated to prove his skills, that he became a part of Laney’s junior varsity squad, scoring more than 40 points in several games. A year later he grew 10 cm. and started to train even harder. As a result, when he was a senior was included in McDonald’s All-American Team.
His great performance won him a basketball scholarship to North California. Jordan proved his qualities in his very first year at the university. He became the ACC Freshman of the Year. Jordan scored 13.4 points per game on average and everyone could see the bright future in front of young Michael.
Just a month after he started his professional career in the NBA, Michael Jordan appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with an article, called “A star is born”. Shortly after his sensational start in the NBA, he was included in the United States’ national team and won a golden medal in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Michael Jordan became one of the most successful basketball players. During his career at Chicago Bulls, he managed to win the NBA championship on 6 occasions and the same number of NBA Finals MVP. He was named for the Most Valuable Player of the season 5 times. He won the Olympics with the USA on one another occasion (1992 in Barcelona). Jordan has also achieved a lot of records, such as Chicago Bulls’ all-time leading scorer and so on.
His impressive stats made him a legend. Jordan scored a total of 32,292 points which is 30,1 per game on average. He also made 6,672 rebounds and 5,633 assists. He is, of course, a member of Basketball Hall of Fame.
Despite he was one of the best basketball players, Jordan lost his interest in the game in 1993 and decided to play baseball professionally. His decision was maybe made because of the murder of his father. He spent almost two years playing baseball for the Birmingham Barons and the Scottsdale Scorpions. And eventually returned to his vocation in March 1995.
In 2003 Jordan became the first 40-aged player to score 43 points in an NBA game. He averaged 20 points per game that season for the Washington Wizards. That was his last season in his brilliant career.
In 2010 Michael Jordan was ranked by the Forbes magazine as one of the most powerful celebrities in the world. He is not only one of the best basketball players, but also an example for all the young people!
